Integrative Psychiatry Services

Medication Management

If I think you will benefit from a medication, I provide you with up-to-date evidence behind your medication regimen. This is so you can make an informed decision if it is right for you.

I also make sure you understand the risks and benefits. I use the lowest effective dose possible to minimize side effects.

Telepsychiatry & Psychotherapy

I provide telepsychiatry via a secure, HIPAA compliant video platform so we can work together virtually from the comfort of your own home.

My talk therapy is aimed at getting to the root of, and freeing you from what is causing your pain, discomfort, keeping you feeling stuck, or preventing you from feeling more whole, happy, healthy, and at peace.

Specialized Lab & Genetic Testing

I order labs to rule out medical conditions and nutritional deficiencies that may be contributing to your mental health symptoms.

Genetic testing can help me provide you with personalized medication treatments, predict responses to specific medications, and optimize your medication regimen.

Medication Tapering Support

I can help you by gradually deprescribing psychiatric medication when appropriate. Many patients face withdrawal symptoms when stopping medication, but a gradual taper along with lifestyle changes can help people successfully discontinue medication.

Psychedelic Integration Therapy & KAP

I help you somatically introspect using ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) and integration therapy sessions. A psychedelic experience can be like receiving a seed of spiritual insight. I can guide you in developing a plan to cultivate and nourish that seed, fostering its growth in your everyday life so it can bloom into lasting positive change.

If a psychedelic experience causes disruption or new symptoms, we'll create a strategy to restore your balance.

Supplements & Herbal Medicine

I can prescribe nutraceuticals, herbs, and supplements to support your mental health. If you are already taking supplements, I can help you optimize your regimen and make sure there are no medication interactions.

Lifestyle Medicine

We talk about your routines and devise a plan to enhance your lifestyle for better mental health. This involves working on optimizing activity levels, rejuvenating sleep, stress handling, and technology use. I help you make feasible, lasting changes.

Mind-Body Medicine

I believe we all have the power to control our mood and anxiety through mindfulness exercises. I can teach you how to use meditation and mindfulness to stabilize your mood.

Nutritional Psychiatry

Nutrition and gut health significantly impacts mental health. Recent studies highlight its powerful effect on psychiatric symptoms. We'll analyze your diet closely and create a holistic, brain-gut-microbiome supportive nutrition plan.

How it works:

I believe deep healing takes time. This is why I am out-of-network and do not accept insurance at this psychiatric practice. This is so I can provide my patients with personalized care, take more time, and use evidence-informed integrative treatments that are typically not covered by insurance plans. Your intake visits and follow-up appointments with me will not be rushed. The time we take for each visit takes into account all the integrative healing modalities I’ve listed above, and any changes between visits we need to address.

FAQ:

  • Integrative psychiatry approaches mental health through the lenses of conventional psychiatry and holistic modalities, together. Your treatment might include psychotropic medications for psychological symptoms, with the aim to potentially discontinue them as you develop skills and support. We'll tailor a plan to ease your suffering, whether you're starting, stopping, or have used medication before.

Beyond prescriptions, I’m also looking to the past, to ancient traditions of healing, and I’m looking to the future, to what’s at the cutting-edge. So I can discern when it might be appropriate to include additional ways of addressing issues, like nutraceuticals, Ayurveda, meditation, plant medicines, botanicals, etc. I always include an in-depth assessment of lifestyle, sleep, nutrition, and relationships with the intention of healing the root causes and restoring balance. The safest and most effective holistic approaches are combined with the most useful parts of traditional psychiatry, all in the context of a deep and caring provider-patient relationship.

If you prefer non-medication options or want to explore, I can give evidence-based advice for mood, anxiety, substance use, and sleep concerns.

  • I commonly help people with depression, anxiety, bipolar, OCD, trauma, eating disorders, and addictions, but my practice is not limited by diagnostic labels. People don't always neatly fit into those categories, and I don't take past diagnoses at face value. I always do a thorough assessment of my own, in collaboration with you. Sometimes this can be life-changing.

  • This is a great question. I am not participating in insurance plans at my practice. This allows me to provide my clients with personalized care, take more time, and use evidence-informed integrative treatments that are typically not covered by insurance plans. Though I am not in-network with any insurance companies, I am happy to provide a superbill for out-of-network benefits.

Our patients are self-pay, and depending on their out-of-network insurance benefits, may be reimbursed for some or all of the session fees. Some patients are reimbursed 100%, others none at all, and for many it's something like 50-80% after meeting a deductible.

To find out for sure, I’d recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking: Do I have out of network coverage for psychiatry? If so, is there a deductible? If there's a deductible, have I met it? What percentage of fees will be covered? What is the allowable amount for codes 99204, 99205, 99213, 99214, 90833, 90836, 90838, 90785, 99217?

  • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Psychiatrists are both trained to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions with medications and psychotherapy interventions. We often perform the same role in mental health care. Numerous studies have also found that patient outcomes for nurse practitioners are equivalent to, and in some cases better than, those of physicians.

By choosing to work with a nurse practitioner, you see someone who was trained under a nursing model-–to care for the whole patient, in addition to treating disease. Many psychiatrists adopt this philosophy of care as well, but for NPs, it’s part of our training from day 1. You do what you feel is best for you, but rest assured that with a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, your care is in very well-trained, compassionate, and capable hands.

  • Step 1: Fill out my Contact form to schedule a free 15-minute Introductory Call

The first step to start working with me is scheduling free 15-minute phone consultation. This lets us gauge our compatibility, and talk more about whether we might be a good fit. Please make sure to fill out the contact form and I will send you a link to get you scheduled. You can fill out my contact form here.

Step 2: Preparing for Your Intake Appointment

Should our introductory call confirm our compatibility, we'll coordinate and schedule the first intake session. Before this meeting, please complete the intake forms I will send you before the appointment thoroughly. I'll review them before your intake appointment. It will either be 90 minutes or 120 minutes depending on the complexity of your case and needs.

Step 3: During your Intake Appointment

During our intake visit, I look forward to hearing your story. Together, we'll devise a comprehensive treatment strategy that resonates with your beliefs, working collaboratively to overcome challenges. Afterwards, regular follow-ups will be arranged to track your progress.

Typically, I schedule follow-up visits with new patients ranging from weekly to every few weeks during the initial 2-3 months we implement your treatment plan. This frequency is tailored to the severity of their symptoms and the level of support you need. After the first 3 months, the follow-up visit frequency shifts to once a month, while for those under long-term care, appointments tend to occur every 2-3 months.

  • All appointments are telehealth using a secure, HIPAA compliant video platform.

I see patients ages 16+, based in Texas or Colorado.

  • I offer therapy, holistic approaches, and medication-based treatments for substance use disorders. Some examples of medications I use for the treatment of alcohol and opioid addictions include naltrexone and suboxone, which are both FDA approved. I also use other medications off label for addiction treatment depending on patient needs.

  • Yes, I can help people who want to stop their medications, reduce their dose, or simplify their medication regimen. If I think it will do more harm than good, I’ll explain why. But many times it's a good option to consider, especially when there may be questions about the validity of the original diagnosis, when the current medication isn't helping enough, and when there may be other approaches that can decrease the need for medications over the long run.

  • Not at all. This is not an anti-medication practice. When I think medication could help, I’ll tell you, and we’ll talk through the pros and cons together. I’m here to give you the information you need to make your own choices, aligned with your values. I support what works for each person to flourish, and I have no preconceived judgments about what that needs to be.

  • I do not prescribe stimulants for clients based in Texas.

I do prescribe stimulants for patients based in Colorado.

I do prescribe benzodiazepines if all the following conditions are met: I think the medication is appropriate for you, you use it as prescribed, you have the ability to check your blood pressure and heart rate at home, and we have had an appointment in the last 30 days.

  • I am able to offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP), a form of psychedelic-assisted therapy using oral ketamine from the comfort of your home. We will discuss if it is appropriate and safe for your treatment plan after our initial intake visit.

Psychedelic-assisted therapy involves a clinician present with someone (virtually or in person) during a psychedelic experience, usually with preparation sessions ahead of the experience and integration therapy sessions afterward. There is promising research happening with psychedelics like psilocybin and MDMA for a variety of mental health conditions. In Texas, ketamine is currently the only legal psychedelic that can be prescribed off-label for mental health conditions such as depression, PTSD, and addictions.

I can prescribe you oral ketamine lozenges to be delivered to your home. Prior to your ceremony, we will have a preparation therapy visit. During your ceremony, I can support you virtually using somatic therapy through your psychedelic journey. Afterward, I will support you with post ceremony and integration therapy sessions. Have on hand a heart rate monitor and blood pressure cuff available for this treatment.
